Singer-songwriter Jim Sharkey is an Irish and Americana folk musician. Jim grew up in County Roscommon, Ireland, and came to the US in 1982 when he joined the US Navy in London, England. He spent five years as a photographer on the USS Dixon in San Diego, California, and twenty years working in television and video production in California, North Carolina, and Maine and received numerous awards for his work including 3 Regional Emmy nominations. He taught children with special needs in Westbrook, Maine; Roanoke, Virginia;  The Arts Based School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and he currently teaches at Lexington Middle School, North Carolina. Jim continues to play two or three times a month in Virginia, North and South Carolina, Maryland, and Washington DC, accompanying himself on guitar, harmonica, and sometimes bodhrán. He also plays as part of a trio with Bill Moore, bouzouki/guitar and Andrew Nemchik, accordion/whistle/harmonica around the Triangle area of North Carolina. Jim's original songs blend Celtic traditional ballad influences with contemporary issues that are often set in the area he resides. His fourth CD "A Lovely Day" was released in December 2019. Jim has six songs written for a new album he hopes

to release in 2021.

Jim's song "Nothing in Particular" from the "Misty Morning Rain" CD is included on the "North Carolina Gold Album" - released in October 2019 - a collection of songs about North Carolina featuring new songs by country and folk legends Rick Scott and Si Kahn and many other talented NC songwriters.
